Candle Care Guide
A well-cared-for candle burns longer, smells better, and fills your space with more light. Follow these steps to get the most from every flame.
Six Steps to a Perfect Burn
First Burn Is Everything
Allow your candle to burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted to the edges on the first use. This prevents "tunneling" — where the candle burns straight down the center, wasting wax and fragrance. First burns typically take 2–4 hours depending on candle size.
Trim Your Wick
Before each burn, trim your wick to ¼ inch (about 6mm). A long wick causes excessive flickering, black soot, and uneven burning. Use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or scissors. Remove any wick debris from the wax pool.
Burn Time Limits
Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. After 4 hours, extinguish the flame, let the wax cool and solidify, trim the wick, and then relight. Extended burns can cause the wick to move, the glass to overheat, and the fragrance to diminish.
Keep It Still
Burn your candle away from drafts, vents, fans, and open windows. Moving air causes uneven burning, excessive flickering, and soot. Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials.
Extinguish Safely
Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax pool and straighten it back up. Avoid blowing out candles — this can cause the wick to move off-center and send smoke into the air. Never use water to extinguish.
Know When to Stop
Discontinue use when ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom. Burning below this level can cause the glass to overheat. The remaining wax can be melted in a wax warmer to continue enjoying the fragrance.

Pro Tips for Maximum Fragrance
Burn in a smaller room first
Fragrance fills smaller spaces more quickly. Start in a bedroom or bathroom to enjoy the full scent experience before moving to larger rooms.
Keep the lid on between burns
Replacing the lid after each burn preserves the fragrance oils in the wax and extends the life of your candle's scent throw.
Store away from sunlight
Direct sunlight can fade the color of your candle and cause the fragrance to dissipate more quickly. Store in a cool, dark place.
Reuse the vessel
Once your candle is finished, clean the vessel with warm soapy water and repurpose it as a planter, pen holder, or decorative jar.
